Power Your Industry with the Right Industrial Rooftop Solar System

Match your factory's electricity demand and available roof space with an industrial rooftop solar system designed for efficient on-site power generation and long-term energy savings.

Industrial Rooftop Solar Designed Around Your Facility

An industrial rooftop project has to work around production schedules, high electrical loads, roof safety and the facility expansion plan. GSE Renewables designs industrial rooftop solar for factories, manufacturing plants, processing facilities, warehouses and industrial campuses that want to reduce daytime grid purchase without disrupting operations.

The assessment covers load data, roof structure, shading, electrical integration, work-at-height controls, installation phasing and the commercial model. Facilities that cannot meet demand from the roof alone can compare ground mounted solar and open access solar, while sites needing resilience can review solar storage.

What Is Industrial Rooftop Solar?

The Industrial Rooftop Solar system refers to a solar power system installed on the roof of an industrial building like factories, manufacturing plants, warehouses, and so forth to provide the facility with power. Solar panels are used to capture energy from the sun and generate DC energy, which is later converted to AC energy by the use of inverters.

The system is designed based on the roof space, structural capacity, electricity demand, solar resource, electrical infrastructure and applicable grid requirements. For some projects under specific arrangements and laws, excess production can be placed on the grid.

Types of Industrial Rooftop Solar Systems We Install

1
On-Site Grid-Connected Solar

Industrial solar panels are installed on your factory rooftop and connected to the building's electrical system. Power is consumed directly, reducing grid import. Surplus units are exported to the DISCOM under net metering, earning credits on your electricity bill. Best for: manufacturing units, warehouses, food processing plants with 150 kW–5 MW daytime load.

2
Off-Site / Open Access Solar

If your rooftop area is insufficient for your total power requirement, GSE can structure an open access solar arrangement, where power is generated at a remote solar park and wheeled to your facility via the state grid. Best for: large energy consumers needing 1 MW+ but with limited usable roof area.

3
Ground-Mounted Industrial Solar

For industrial parks, SEZs, or factories with large unused land parcels, ground-mounted solar panels deliver maximum generation capacity without rooftop constraints. Systems can scale from 500 kW to multiple MW.

4
Solar + Battery Hybrid Systems

For facilities requiring 24-hour power security or operating in areas with frequent grid outages, GSE integrates Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with industrial rooftop solar. This eliminates dependence on DG sets and provides uninterrupted clean power.

How Does Industrial Rooftop Solar Work?

The solar modules mounted on the industrial roof generate the direct current (DC) electricity. The solar inverters transform the DC power to AC power and synchronize with the electrical system of the facility and then feed it to the loads connected to the DC system.

From the solar generation side, the factory can use the electricity for production equipment, HVAC system, lighting, motors and other loads during periods of peak solar generation. Surplus electricity can be fed back into the network (dependent on system and regulations). Generation, equipment status and operation of the systems are monitored and controlled during operation.

Key Benefits of Industrial Rooftop Solar Panel Installation

60–80% Reduction in Power Bills

Industrial electricity tariffs often exceed ₹8–10/kWh. Solar generation costs ₹1.5–2.5/kWh on a levelised basis over 25 years, offering a permanent, structural cost advantage.

Energy Independence for Your Facility

Reduces exposure to DISCOM supply interruptions, reactive power surcharges, and demand charges while providing predictable baseload power.

Strong ROI & Asset Creation

Industrial solar systems are capital assets with 25+ year lifespans. After a 3–5 year payback period, electricity generation is effectively free.

ESG & Carbon Compliance

Each MW of rooftop solar displaces ~1,400 tonnes of CO₂ per year, directly supporting Scope 2 emission reduction commitments and green procurement criteria.

Tax Incentives

40% accelerated depreciation under the Income Tax Act significantly lowers net Year 1 cost, alongside potential state-level incentives (e.g., Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka).

Low Maintenance, 25-Year Life

Systems have no moving parts and maintain a 95%+ performance ratio throughout their operational life under proper annual O&M contracts.

Roof Utilisation

Transforms idle rooftop space into a revenue-generating asset while shading the building to reduce roof surface temperatures and lower air conditioning loads.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is industrial rooftop solar?

It is a rooftop solar system designed for factories and facilities with large loads. The design considers production schedules, roof structure, electrical integration, safety and installation phasing.

2. How is it different from commercial rooftop solar?

Industrial systems often involve larger capacities, high-tension connections, production loads, complex roofs and stricter safety controls. Commercial projects serve offices, retail, hospitality, healthcare and institutions.

3. Can installation interrupt factory operations?

The project should be planned around permits, roof access, material movement, electrical shutdowns and production zones. A phased plan can reduce disruption.

4. What if the roof cannot meet the total load?

The business may combine rooftop solar with a ground-mounted plant, open access solar or storage. The mix should be designed from load data and site constraints.

5. What O&M is needed?

Industrial plants need monitoring, preventive inspections, cleaning, electrical checks, fault response, warranty coordination and reporting under site safety rules.
